Ana Kadova (1913)

Synopsis

The 82-minute 35 mm black and white film recreated the adventures of the mysterious Ana Kadova in an imaginary kingdom called Balkania, where nobles, villains and spies mingle. Count Cadova is dispossessed of his power and condemned to death. From seed his daughter Ana vows to avenge his death. Throughout the film she is pursued by spies and falls in love with a doctor.

Technical specifications

The sets were by Ros and Güell, the costumes by Casa Paquita, the hairdressing by Borrell and the furniture by Casa Rex.

The plot was by Julio López de Castilla, who participated in later films such as Chopin’s Nocturne (1915) or as an actor in Don Juan Tenorio (1922). Cox & Co, in anticipation of success, ordered two complete negatives, one for American and one for German audiences. A third was taken to Russia

This silent spy story featured actors such as Joaquím Carrasco, Gerardo Peña, Josep Durany and Estrems, Pilar Adriano (Ana Cadova), Joan Rovira (Butler), Modesto Santolaria (Secret Agent) and Alicia Gerart.
